Space Hop reading awards in Histon

A certificate and medal presentation ceremony for the children who completed the Space Hop Summer Reading Challenge took place on at Histon Library, 9 Sep 10.  Children who had completed the challenge by reading six books during the summer holidays received a certificate and a medal.  A  record number of children registered this year; 135 children successfully completed the challenge.

The medals and certificates were presented by David and Sue and by Marian Cleaver of Histon Parish Council. Graham Eales of Histon Football Club was also in attendance. Graham invited all the children to come along to the football club to watch the game against Altrincham on 9 Oct 10 and asked them to register for the draw to be club mascots.

David says: ‘this reading challenge is a great initiative and it’s super that the two parish councils of Histon and Impington support it financially. I’ve always been a reader and am so grateful that I got into the habit when I was a schoolboy. It’s given me such enjoyment in the years since. I know that there’s competition from digital media these days but for me there’s something special about the printed word’.
